Meet a Saga Carer

I have worked full time for Saga since September 2015. Before joining Saga I worked in a care home for seven years, so working in the community was quite daunting to start with, but now I love it.

I have been a regular carer for an 80-year-old gentleman in a wheelchair. He has a cracking sense of humour. Although in a wheelchair, he is quite independent and uses an adapted vehicle to stay mobile.

I absolutely love my job, making a difference to all my clients’ lives. For my regular client, I support him in doing things that are difficult for him, such as making his bed and doing his laundry, even feeding his fish in the garden pond.

During the evening call, I ensure he has everything he needs to hand for the night and the next morning. I have built up a great rapport with him and his three daughters. He knows he can ask me to do anything, without any embarrassment at all. I raise any concerns to the lead nurse regarding his health or my support team for care plan or any general issues. The team in the office send me his rota each week, which I write out for him so he knows who to expect on each call.

He says he is over the moon with the care he receives from Saga, and looks forward to seeing us twice a day.
