Excesses and Discounts

No Claim Discount
The less you claim the more you could save.

A No Claim Discount is available only on Cover Plus policies. If you have both Cover Plus buildings and contents policies, each No Claim Discount will be treated separately. This means that, if you claimed on one policy, any No Claim Discount on the other policy remains unaffected. Please note that should you upgrade to Cover Plus at any time during your policy year, you will start to earn the No Claim Discount from your next renewal date.

As the first table below shows, if you do not make a claim on your Cover Plus insurance for the first 12 months you will receive a discount on your premium of 5% at your first renewal. A second year with no claim will increase this discount further to 10%.

If you do make a claim, you will lose all your No Claim Discount. However, the No Claim Discount can be built up again in future years.

The second table shows the effect of making a claim when you do not have a No Claim Discount. This could lead to an increase in your premium, although future claim-free years will enable you to build up a No Claim Discount at succeeding renewals. If you would like to know more about the No Claim Discount and how it may help you to reduce your future premiums, please call us free on 0845 366 1607.

The cost of making a claim
A standard excess will be applied if you have to make a claim. The excess is the amount you contribute towards the cost of the claim.

A choice of excesses
An "excess" is the amount that you must pay towards any claim you make. The higher the excess you choose at the outset, the larger the discount you receive on your insurance premium.
