This is a great opportunity for carers, but as a carer support worker am trying to find holidays for carers and their cared for. If a carer had their name put forward is their provision made for their cared for?

After nominations close for the Trusts inaugural year on the 31st August 2008. There will be future opportunities to nominate carers in the Trusts second year. Details will be posted on our carers website later this year.

Is it possible that this opportunity will be offered again in the future? The deadline is probably too short for us to nominate anyone this time, but it would be useful to know of any future opportunities for carers.

The Trust is all about rewarding the Carer and to provide them with a well earned break from their caring duties. It would be considered appropriate for an organisation to nominate an individual unpaid carer if they thought they deserved it.

Is it appropriate for an organisation to nominate a carer?

Congratulations SAGA on this excellent initiative which also helps raise awareness of the importance of short breaks to carers and cared for people. I would, however, urge SAGA to reconsider its position on joint breaks where the carer and their loved one can have a holiday together. This may not be what everyone is looking for but many enquiries we receive to our helpline are from couples who simply wouldn't want to be parted but are desperately looking for a break together - in suitable accomodation - perhaps with a little additional care support if necessary. Anything SAGA could do to support this I'm sure would be very gratefully welcomed. Don Williamson Shared Care Scotland

Significant holiday is considered to be over 7 days.

While the Trust understands the benefit of supported breaks together, the object of the Trust as agreed with the Charity Commission is to reward people who care seflessly for their loved ones by offering a well-earned break away from their caring responsibilities, which would preclude the cared for.

Is it possible for the carer and cared for to have a supported break together? The person/s I would like to nominate have had horrific experiences of respite care. It would be so nice for them to have a holiday together, something we all take for granted. Many thanks.

Please could you let me know what is meant by "significant holiday" in the terms and conditions for the applications from carers. Many thanks. Philippa Farrant
