Car Insurance
There are more ways to make driving more eco-friendly than you might think…
Green products for your car
We’ve already looked at what green cars are available on the market and we’ve also compiled an easy-to-follow guide to greener driving, which should help car insurance customers save money, as well as helping protect the environment. And now, because we believe in doing all we can to help promote eco-friendly motoring, here are some green driving products worth mentioning – all designed especially to help lessen the affects of the many thousands of miles that we clock up on the UK’s roads, every year.
Fuel saving tyres
Tyre manufacturers such as Michelin and Firestone have developed fuel saving tyres, designed to reduce the impact of motoring on the environment.
Amazingly, tyres alone are responsible for 20% of your car’s fuel consumption. And out of every five tanks filled, one is consumed by your tyres’ rolling resistance, alone. Manufacturers have worked to reduce this rolling resistance and developed the famous ‘green tyre’ which can actually cut fuel consumption by 3%, has a stronger grip and lasts just as long as a conventional tyre.
Since ‘green tyres’ were first introduced in 1992, the impact has been huge. With over 400 million tyres being sold across Europe, 12 billion litres of fuel have been saved and that equates to the prevention of 31 million tonnes of CO2 being pumped into the atmosphere.
So the next time you need to replace your tyres, it’s worth asking about what green options are available.
Environmentally friendly batteries
Automotive battery manufacturer Varta adopts a strict green policy at all phases of its production process – from the early stages of development and manufacture, right through to environmentally conscious recycling of its products.
And now, with the advent of electrically powered and hybrid cars, Varta has invested heavily in technology designed to drive the motoring industry into the future. Together with Mercedes, they have pioneered the fitting of lithium-ion batteries into the new Mercedes S400 saloon.
Eco-friendly car polish
Yes, believe or not, you can even polish your car, knowing that you won’t be harming the environment. Zymöl cleaner wax not only brings out the shine in your paintwork but it does so without the use of harsh chemical solvents. Its all-natural formula is water-based and blended without hydrocarbons.
In fact, what it contains makes it sound more like a beauty product that a car wax – carnauba wax, beeswax, vitamin E, aloe vera, banana and coconut extracts and almond meal. But then again, it does make you look beautiful.
