Up to 60% No Claim Discount
When you take out a Saga HealthPlan you will normally start with a 35% No Claim Discount, level 5 on the scale. Then, for every subsequent year you do not claim, your discount rises by 5% until you reach a maximum discount of 60%. If you do make a claim, you simply move back two levels on the scale. No matter how many claims you make you will never fall below level 0.

Optional No Claim Discount Protection
Saga HealthPlans offer No Claim Discount Protection. This allows you to make one claim without affecting your No Claim Discount. If you remain claim-free you will go up the No Claim Discount scale until you reach the maximum. Unlike some other providers who offer a No Claim Discount scheme, our protection allows you to budget for, and alleviate, future premium increases if you make a claim.
4-week wait option
If you would like to benefit from the features of Saga HealthPlans, but are happy to receive some treatment on the NHS if it is available without a long wait, you can reduce your premium by adding a 4-week wait option to your plan. This means that, if the NHS confirms they are able to provide the necessary treatment within four weeks of the date it should be undertaken, you would use its service instead. You would still receive £100 cash benefit for each night you spend in hospital (up to a maximum of 20 nights).
We recognise that the NHS is working hard to reduce waiting times for in-patient treatment, so to increase the likelihood of you benefiting from treatment privately, our wait period is just four weeks rather than six weeks offered by other providers. In addition, we include nine common conditions for which we will provide treatment regardless of NHS waiting times.
- Cataract surgery
- Varicose veins surgery
- Removal of gallbladder
- Haemorrhoidectomy
- Removal of bunions
- Correction of squint
- Insertion of grommets
- Tonsillectomy
- Adenoidectomy.
Excess options
Whichever HealthPlan you choose, there is the option of adding an excess to your policy to help reduce the cost of your cover by up to 30% (or 20% if you are switching from an employer’s group policy). The excess is the amount you agree to pay before any benefit becomes payable and is applied per person per policy year. If you choose an excess of £100, for example, and the cost of your treatment is £500, you would contribute the first £100 and we would pay the remaining £400. Saga HealthPlans offer a choice of £100, £250, £500, £750 or £1,000 optional excesses.
Payment options
We offer a number of convenient payment methods. You can pay your premium either by monthly Direct Debit, or annually by cheque, credit card or Direct Debit. You can save 7.5% if you pay your premium annually.
