A large proportion of fires originate in the kitchen. Keeping vigilant when you’re cooking can reduce the risk of a fire occurring.

Purchase a fire blanket and learn how to use it
Do not use adapters in the kitchen
Ensure pan handles are not protruding from the hob so they are less easy to knock over
If you leave the kitchen to answer the door or the phone, make sure you take any pans off the heat and that the grill is turned off
Never put metal in the microwave
Don’t leave children unattended in the kitchen
Keep your toaster clean and away from anything that could catch alight.
