Stay warm this winter
The recent cold snap has been a sharp reminder of draughty rooms, creaking boilers and inefficient central heating. The fear of the central heating system packing up is bad enough, but worries about fuel bills are a very real concern that help create ‘fuel poverty’. Many people simply don't realise that energy companies can provide free cavity wall and loft insulation and are obliged to provide support and advice to their customers. If the energy companies don't use the insulation they have, then less will be available next winter so the message is simple;
'Use it or lose it !'
Saga’s Director General, Dr Ros Altmann is urging people to contact their energy supplier to find out if they’re eligible for help; ‘Help could be at hand from the energy suppliers who have obligations under Government agreements to provide support and advice to their customers, and free loft and cavity wall insulation in many cases too. Our energy company contacts are telling us they have not heard from enough people so far and are sitting on piles of insulation waiting to be installed.
Saga's commitment
“We’re asking family and friends to help any vulnerable older people they know to make sure they get any help they are entitled to. Too many older people’s lives are being lost to cold weather and Saga is committed to making sure people are protected.”
Saga's support for the 'Surviving Winter' campaign has already helped 20,000 people. The campaign, has raised over £2 million and will be helping more vulnerable people across the UK as the cold weather continues.
