Garages can contain dangerous tools and hazardous chemicals, but knowing how to safely store them can help prevent an accident. See our helpful tips below:

Try to keep your garage as clean and clutter free as possible, especially around the doorway
Ensure your garage is well lit
Ensure shelves are not overloaded and store heavier items closer to the ground
Have a system and pack away your tools neatly after any work
Clean up any spills straight away
Never run a car or generator in a garage that is not adequately ventilated
Keep electrical tools packed away, out of sight
Store ladders off the floor on a wall bracket to save space
Keep dangerous items like rakes and spades away from well-used walkways
Store hazardous chemicals out of the way of children, in a place they are unlikely to fall
Avoid decanting hazardous chemicals from one container into another
Try to avoid storing gasoline in your garage. If you do, ensure you use a special container
