Houseplants while on holiday

When going on holiday, care of your houseplants is easily overlooked - but follow our tips below to ensure you return home to healthy houseplants.

Move any plants that can go outside into the garden so they have opportunity to receive regular sunlight and water (it is the great British summer after all!)
If you are unable to move the plants outdoors, water all of them thoroughly the day before you leave and top them up on the day of travel
Turn the thermostat down so the plants don’t overheat. This should save you money as well
Open any curtains or blinds to allow the plants to maximise their sunshine
If you have one or two favourite plants, self-watering wicks are available to keep your plants nourished while you’re away
Have a friend stop in to water your plants once a week
Leaving the plants in the bath is one possibility if you are away for an extended period
