Options to reduce your Saga HealthPlan premiums

Saga HealthPlans offer a number of options to help you tailor the cover you require to suit your budget.

  • Excess options
  • 4–week wait option
  • Payment options
Excess options

Whether you choose Saga HealthPlan Super, Secure, Saver or Support, there is the option of adding an excess to your policy to help reduce the cost of your cover by up to 30%. The excess is the amount you agree to pay before any benefit becomes payable and is applied per person per policy year. If you choose an excess of £100, for example, and the cost of your treatment is £500, you would contribute the first £100 and we would pay the remaining £400. Saga HealthPlans offer a choice of £100, £250, £500, £750 or £1,000 optional excesses.

4–week wait option

If you would like to benefit from the features of Saga HealthPlan Super, Secure Saver or Support, but are happy to receive some treatment on the NHS if it is available without a long wait, you can reduce your premium by adding a 4-week wait option to your plan. This means that, if your specialist confirms that the NHS can provide the necessary treatment locally within four weeks, you would use their service instead. We recognise that the NHS is working hard to reduce waiting times for in–patient treatment, so to increase the likelihood of you benefiting from treatment privately, our wait period is just four weeks rather than six weeks offered by other providers. In addition, we include nine common conditions for which we will provide treatment with no wait at all.

  • Cataract surgery
  • Varicose veins surgery
  • Removal of gallbladder
  • Haemorrhoidectomy
  • Removal of bunions
  • Correction of squint
  • Insertion of grommets
  • Tonsillectomy
  • Adenoidectomy
Payment options

We offer a number of convenient payment methods. You can pay your premium either monthly by Direct Debit, or annually by cheque, credit card or Direct Debit. You can save 7.5% if you pay your premium annually.
