Saga Private Medical Insurance
Saga Key Treatments
If you would like the extra reassurance of cover that goes beyond joint replacements, Saga Key Treatments is for you. The policy represents excellent value for money because, for just a few pounds a month extra, it adds cover for a wide range of conditions that commonly affect people aged 50 and over. These include:
- Joint replacements, including hips and knees
- Eye conditions, including cataracts
- Gall Bladder removal
- Hernias
- Varicose veins
As with the Joints Replacement Plan, the additional conditions covered by Saga Key Treatments often incur long NHS waits and — because of their ‘non-urgent’ status — are more likely to be cancelled at the last minute.
What Saga Key Treatments covers
Joint replacements
Like our Joints Replacement Plan, Saga Key Treatments includes cover for the renewal of hips, knees and wrists. The policy provides up to £650 of out–patient cover (£150 more than the Joints Replacement Plan), as well as full cover for scans.
Eye conditions, including cataracts
Cataracts usually result in foggy and impaired vision, often restricting everyday activities such as driving and reading. They are more common than many people realise — nearly two–thirds of people have the first traces by the age of 50. Taking out Saga Key Treatments sooner rather than later can therefore make good sense.
Hernias
Hernias involve painful protrusions that affect the stomach and abdomen, so a long wait for treatment under the NHS is best avoided. By covering both inguinal and hiatus hernias, Saga Key Treatments can help you receive treatment much more quickly at a convenient hospital near you.
Gall bladder removal
The build up of small ‘stones’ in the gall bladder can result in abdominal pain. The condition often necessitates treatment and can involve the removal of the gall bladder. Nowadays, keyhole surgery is frequently used to make treatment as straightforward as possible, but a long NHS wait can mean an uncomfortable delay that can be avoided with Saga Key Treatments.
Varicose veins
This common condition can cause uncomfortable aching and itching in the legs, and walking or standing can be difficult and tiring. Remedial surgery is quick and effective, but standard procedures involve a long NHS wait or cost up to £2,000 a leg privately. Saga Key Treatments can get you up and about as soon as possible.
High levels of protection
With Saga Key Treatments, you can choose to receive the necessary treatment at any of a wide range of private hospitals, general hospitals and scanning centres throughout the UK. You will also benefit from the many other perks of private healthcare.
As the table below illustrates, there is no maximum on how much you can claim each year for eligible in–patient and day–patient treatment. There is also up to £650 to cover out–patient consultations, diagnostic tests and physiotherapy linked to one of the specified conditions. Furthermore, CT, MRI and PET scans are covered in full. We also provide cover for any complications arising from related surgery.
