What is covered by Home Emergency?
The following features are included under all cover levels.
Water supply pipe cover
A home emergency involving the leakage, collapse, or blockage of the mains water supply pipes that requires immediate attention to restore the mains water supply to your home.
Water pipes connected to detached outbuildings, fountains, swimming pools, ponds, other decorative garden features, garden taps, treatment plants, rainwater pipes, roofs, guttering or other external property. Shared pipework or any frozen pipes where there’s no confirmed damage.
Home emergencies involving the cold water storage tank. Home emergencies involving internal hot and cold water pipes, between the main internal stopcock and the internal taps. Sudden unexpected water leaking from internal overflow pipes, toilet cisterns or central heating pipes. Sudden water leaks from shower fixtures and fittings, which can’t be controlled.
Repair or replacement of cylinders, steel or asbestos water tanks, immersion heaters, heating controls, water circulating and pressure pumps, radiators and radiator valves. Repairing or replacing washers or taps. Breakage or failure of saniflow systems or sanitary ware, siphon units, shower trays or enclosures, toilet bowls and associated pumps.
Internal gas supply cover
Your home is covered if there is a complete, sudden and unexpected failure of the gas supply from the gas meter to your gas appliances.
Partial failure of the internal domestic gas supply. Failure, interruption or disconnection of the mains gas supply.
Internal electrics cover
Your home is covered if there is a complete, sudden and unexpected failure of the electrical system in your home.
Partial failure of the internal electrical supply. Repair or replacement of spotlights and decorative floor lights, security systems and any external fittings such as TV aerials and satellite dishes.
Pest infestation cover
Your home is covered for the removal of mice, rats, wasps, hornets and cockroaches where evidence of infestation has been found.
Pest infestation outside of the home. Infestation known to exist before the policy begins. Infestations where your home has been unoccupied for more than 60 days. An infestation where reasonable hygiene could have prevented the infestation. An infestation of bats or bees.
Roof damage cover
Your home is covered against sudden and unexpected damage to the roof where there is ingress of water from an external source. We will undertake a temporary emergency repair using a tarpaulin or similar material to resolve the immediate home emergency.
Cover is not available for thatched, flat, glass, plastic, felt or tarpaulin roofs. Any loss or damage relating to a permanent repair that is or should be more specifically insured as part of any other insurance policy.
Keys and locks
- Lost keys
- Stolen keys (please obtain a crime reference number from the police to confirm the theft)
- Locks on external doors – sudden and unexpected failure of locks caused by vandalism or a break-in where your home is left unsecured.
Lost or stolen keys for garages, outbuildings and sheds. Lost or stolen keys where another key or set of keys is available or you have other means of access to the home. Stolen keys where a crime reference number has not been obtained. Failure of the external locking mechanisms to doors as a result of vandalism or break-in where a crime reference number has not been obtained.
A home emergency relating to broken or cracked windows. We will undertake a temporary emergency repair using boarding or a similar material to resolve the immediate home emergency.
Criminal damage without a crime reference number. Damage to windows that are over two storeys high which requires external access.
If we consider your home to be uninhabitable following a covered event, we'll reimburse hotel costs of up to £150 a night (includes VAT), for up to 3 nights. Please see the Saga Home Emergency policy documents for full details of cover and exclusions.
