What our customers say

An unexpected setback to your holiday could prove costly, inconvenient and spoil a well-deserved break. So if you need to claim on your travel insurance, you don’t want it to cause any additional stress. That’s why having a high level of cover and a provider that really cares can make a great deal of difference. Here are just a couple of examples of how we have helped our customers…

"My wife and I went on holiday to Skiathos in Greece staying in a remote hillside villa. Three days into the holiday whilst having a swim and lunch at our villa, I suddenly experienced a headache and minutes later started vomiting. Apparently I passed out, steadily going into a coma. My wife immediately called the doctor who made arrangements to fly my wife and I by air ambulance, to Athens Medical Centre where I stayed for two and a half weeks. My wife was placed into a hotel some 20 minutes' taxi drive away. What a shock it all was. It seems that I have had abnormal blood vessels in my brain since birth and it was only now the problem occurred.

After emergency surgery, we finally flew home, with a nurse who was flown out from England to escort me, and I was monitored throughout the flight to Heathrow. When we landed I was transferred by ambulance to Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham.

Thank goodness we took out travel insurance with Saga, otherwise this would have cost thousands of pounds out of our own pocket. Apart from the financial side, every assistance was given by the staff at Saga, who were extremely efficient and professional. They even arranged for my wife’s accommodation nearby and provided initial transport to the hotel.

Being in a foreign country, the language barrier was extremely difficult and again Saga helped by having daily contact by telephone with my wife, informing her of the current situation and my medical progress. This was a lifeline for my wife who found the whole experience very traumatic.

Apart from food and taxi fares, my wife had to provide no financial outlay as Saga covered everything! We cannot express enough, how grateful we were to all the staff at Saga, everything was explained clearly and reassurance was always given.

We dread to think what it would have been like without insurance and all the help that came with it. It was the worst experience we have had on a holiday – but we will always be grateful to Saga and our thanks go out to them. We will definitely use them again."

"My husband and I were very grateful to Saga Travel Insurance for their prompt and sympathetic response regarding our claim on our holiday to Switzerland last September following my mother's unexpected death after a fall. Our holiday was fully refunded."
