Over 70s travel insurance

While our travel insurance is designed with the over 50s in mind, we don’t place upper age limits on our policies.

As standard, your travel insurance would include:

  • Up to £10 million emergency medical cover (£2 million in the UK)
  • Up to £10,000 cancellation cover
  • Up to £5,000 baggage cover
  • 24/7 English speaking travel assistance helpline

Pre-existing medical conditions

If you want to travel, we don’t think pre-existing conditions should hold you back. That’s why our policies cover many medical conditions so you can continue to take holidays for as long as you feel able.

In fact, in the last 10 years, we’ve covered more than 1.2 million people with diagnosed pre-existing medical conditions, such as high blood pressure and diabetes.

European and worldwide travel insurance

Saga Travel Insurance covers all destinations. For single trip, you’ll choose which country or countries you need to be covered for.

For annual multi trip, we offer cover for three regions:

  • Europe
  • Worldwide (excluding the USA, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean)
  • Worldwide, which as the name suggests, covers you for all countries, anywhere in the world.

Do I need travel insurance as well as a GHIC?

A Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC), is complementary to travel insurance, not a replacement. It gives you access to state-provided healthcare while you’re on holiday in a European Economic Area country or Switzerland. If you have one of these cards, you can get the same level of care as someone living in that country would receive, for the same cost.

However, a GHIC, does not cover you for the medical costs that you would have to pay if you need to fly home to continue your treatment. Without travel insurance, you also wouldn’t benefit from all the features that come with it, including cover for cancellation, lost baggage, missed departure, and so on.

Single trip travel insurance for over 70s

Single trip cover is suitable for trips up to 120 days long, perfect if you enjoy escaping the British winter for weeks at a time on a long stay holiday or perhaps you divide your time between the UK and your holiday home abroad.

Of course, it’s just as good for a weekend hop across the Channel or a short break within the UK.

If you’re travelling with friends or family of different ages, as long as the main policyholder is over 50, you can save time by insuring everyone (up to 10 people) on the same policy.

Annual travel insurance for over 70s

If you like to take multiple holidays each year, it might work out better value for money to choose annual multi-trip insurance. Annual insurance covers you for an unlimited number of trips within 12 months. The maximum trip duration is 45 days (which can be extended to 60 or 90 days on our European and Worldwide Excluding USA, Canada and the Caribbean covers), and the maximum number of days we’ll cover within the 12 months is 120.

A great benefit of annual multi-trip insurance is that whenever you book a trip, you’ll know that you’re immediately covered for cancellation. You can also add friends and family under 50 to your annual policy.

24-hour Travel Assistance helpline

Once you take out a Saga Travel Insurance policy, you’ll have access to our Travel Assistance helpline. Friendly, English-speaking advisers are at the end of the phone whenever you need them. Whether you need to know if vaccinations are needed for your destination or what to do if your suitcase doesn’t appear on the airport luggage carousel, we’re here to help.

Winter sports cover and leisure activities

For your next winter holiday, don’t forget your ski travel insurance. Our winter sports add-on will cover you in case you’re injured during your trip as well as damage to your hire skis, piste closure and more.

If that all sounds a bit too chilly for your liking, you’ll be pleased to know that we also cover a huge range of popular leisure activities that don’t involve any snow, including aerobics, cycling, golf and surfing.
