Customers who have booked a holiday independently and are in a country where the FCO have recommended evacuation

If you have booked your holiday independently i.e. not through a bonded tour operator and you are abroad when the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO), the World Health Organisation (WHO) or a similar body issues a directive recommending evacuation from the country or specific area for any reason, Saga will provide cover under the Abandonment section of the policy. This cover will pay up to £5,000 for any irrecoverable unused pre-paid accommodation, car hire, excursions, parking or other pre-paid costs as well as any additional travel or accommodation expenses you incur to enable you to return home early as a result of having to abandon your holiday.

In order to make a claim you will need to obtain proof of the pre-paid costs where you cannot obtain a refund and additional accommodation and travel costs.

Customers who have booked a holiday independently and are due to travel to a country where the FCO have advised against travelling to – for example civil unrest

If you have booked your holiday independently i.e. not through a bonded tour operator and you are due to travel to a country where the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) has advised against all travel or all but essential travel (providing such advice came into force after you purchased this insurance or booked the trip, whichever is later), Saga will provide cover under the Cancellation section of the policy. This cover will pay up to £5,000 for any irrecoverable unused pre-paid accommodation, car hire, flights or other travel arrangements, where you cannot obtain a refund. In order to make a claim you will need to obtain proof of unused pre-paid costs.

Customers who have booked a holiday through a bonded tour operator and are due to travel or are already in a country, where the FCO have advised against travel or recommend evacuation

We advise you to contact your tour operator direct to make alternative arrangements. As this is a recoverable cost it will not be covered under travel insurance.

Important note

If you travel to a country that the FCO has advised against travelling to, then no section of the Saga policy will apply. To check the current advice on a country visit www.fco.gov.uk/en/travel-and-living-abroad/travel-advice-by-country/ or call 0845 850 2829.
