Security matters

When travelling you need to think about your personal safety. You should be vigilant, take sensible precautions and be aware of local culture. Make sure you are aware of the political situation in the country you are going to, keep an eye on the news and, if in doubt, check with the local British Embassy or Consulate.

How Saga Travel Insurance can help

If you are covered by Saga Travel Insurance, our Travel Assistance service is there to provide advice before you travel.

Saga Travel Assistance is a 24-hour helpline service that can provide guidance on:

  • Visas
  • Entry requirements
  • Vaccinations

Further Advice

  • Monitor the media and check the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) Travel Advice Service for the place(s) you plan to visit. Call 0845 850 2829 or visit their website. The Travel Advice Service describes what the FCO believes to be the general nature of security issues, drawing on assessments that are made and regularly updated by British embassies overseas.
  • Non citizens arriving in the United States are now fingerprinted and digitally photographed. This can result in longer queues at US airports, but travellers’ safety should be enhanced.
  • Look out for anything suspicious (for example, an unattended bag at an airport or a group of people acting suspiciously). Report anything that you think is suspicious to the local police – many terrorist attacks have been foiled due to the vigilance of ordinary people.
