Date and walnut porridge recipe

Cooking the dates with the oats gives a rich, sweetly flavoured porridge that can be made without milk. Added walnuts and a sliced banana makes a satisfying breakfast.

Ingredients

  • 80g jumbo oats
  • 50g dates
  • 20g walnuts
  • 570ml water
  • 1 medium banana

Method

Place the oats in a saucepan; add the water, and chop the dates and walnuts and add to the oats.

Bring to the boil, and simmer for six to seven minutes stirring from time to time.

Let stand for a minute before serving. Serve with the banana sliced on top.
