Pension petition in the press

Our justice for pensioners petition is getting plenty of attention from the national press

‘Saga army in pension war’ blazed the headline in last week’s Sun, while the Telegraph’s title trumpeted ‘Saga gets on its charger’, as we unveiled The Saga Petition for Pensions Justice – our online petition that has so far collected over 1500 signatures in its first week.

The Mail on Sunday’s Jeff Prestridge congratulated Saga on joining the fight for fair play and urged its readers to sign the petition. While the Times reminded readers that 20 years ago, a Saga campaign forced the Government to pay enhanced pensions to women who worked in war industries during the Second World War.

In an interview with the Sun, Saga’s strategic director, Tim Bull, said “People believed the Government when it said company pension schemes were unassailable.

“But despite the Parliamentary Ombudsman and Public Administration select committee urging action, the Government is deaf to their plight.

“This issue is now not only about those suffering a miserable retirement but about democracy itself.”

Saga plans to present the petition to the Government after the summer recess.
