Alexander Chancellor - mind the age gap

Your say - what do you think?

Pet therapy volunteer

Kathryn Salomon, 60, from Barnet in London, works as a pet as therapy (PAT) volunteer

"I've taken my retired greyhounds - three in all – to visit a residential home, and made school visits, for nearly five years now.

"Gracie, who used to race at the greyhound stadium in Walthamstow, made her first school visit at the end of last summer term. I gave an assembly to 300 pupils.

“We also visit Jewish Care's Rela Goldhill Lodge, a residential home for younger people with physical disabilities in North West London and Headway East London, a rehabilitation unit for people with brain injuries.

“Since retiring last year I have also been a volunteer for Volunteer Reading Help and visit a junior school twice weekly to work with three Year Four pupils for a half an hour each.

“I really enjoy the work I do and find it very rewarding and satisfying. Gracie also enjoys her visits!”

Our thanks to The 'V' Word , which aims to challenge perceptions of ageing and promote volunteering to people over 55.
