The volunteer knitter

Adele Hall, 80, from Somerset is a volunteer knitter

"I've knitted since I was 7 or 8 years old. I used to knit clothes for my family, and it has only been in recent years that I have started buying clothes.

"I joined Community Service Volunteer's RSVP's voluntary knitting group because I enjoy knitting and if I can do some good then even better.

“We knit trauma teddies for children at home and abroad as well as premature baby clothes.

“The group meets once a month but we knit on our own at home as well. I have also taken finished garments to local hospitals or to depots ready to betaken overseas.

Our thanks to The 'V' Word , which aims to challenge perceptions of ageing and promote volunteering to people over 55.
