Here are a few websites sure to inspire you to get active in the garden

www.rivercottage.net

Run by Channel 4's Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, rivercottage.net is a mine of information on growing and eating food.

There is detailed advice on what's in season, as well as handy recipes for cooking. There's also an Ask Hugh section where readers can put their questions to Fearnley-Whittingstall himself.

www.saga.co.uk/magazine/gardening/

From allotments to wildlife, Saga's vibrant online gardening zone is packed with great ideas for the green-fingered. Here you will find top tips, essential links, things to do, places to visit, a gardening discussion forum called 'The Potting Shed' and much more. Log on and dig in.

www.thefoody.com/

The Foody describes itself as 'an independent resource covering all aspects of food from the UK and Ireland'. There are loads of recipes and features on fruit, vegetables, herbs, spices and meat. The site includes a handy calendar showing, at a glance, what edible plants are in season, and includes a directory of farm shops and food suppliers divided up by region.

www.gardenorganic.org.uk

Garden Organic is the website of HDRA, the charity that supports organic growing. The charity runs several organic gardens around the Midlands and southern England, and the site includes information on organic gardening, links to research on the subject, as well as sections on going organic in school and how to create an organic garden.

www.bbc.co.uk/gardening

What with the many gardening programmes on the BBC, it's no surprise that its website contains a varied selection on the subject. There are dedicated pages for all the shows on TV and radio, as well as advice on growing plants throughout the year. There are also competitions, advice and tips on techniques.
