Learning sites

Expand your cultural horizons with blogs you can learn from

www.languagehat.com

A fascinating blog about (as the name suggests) language. It mostly covers English, as well as its interaction with other cultures and tongues. The blog is written by an American professor of English, but it's both entertaining and easily readable. Definitely one to add to your subscriptions or list of bookmarks.

http://3quarksdaily.blogs.com

A science blog, but don't let that put you off. Three Quarks Daily covers science, art, design, and current affairs, making it easy to find interesting snippets in all of those subjects and more. The site describes itself as a 'filter blog' and aims to provide links to news stories and entertaining original writing on science and other topics.

www.badscience.net

Bad Science is written by a journalist and a practising NHS GP. His interest is in debunking some of the myths about science and medicine perpetuated in the media. Topics range from the effectiveness of the MMR vaccine and the abilities of nutritionists, to whether or not expensive hi-fi cables make a difference to the way music sounds.

www.discogs.com

Like Wikipedia for music, Discogs is a user-built database of discographies. It lists artists, labels, song and album titles, along with other information for each record. Type in an artist's name and the site returns a list of recordings on which they have worked, including collaborations, sessions and covers.
