What is an InPost parcel locker?

Lynn Wright / 22 June 2016

Forget waiting in all day for a delivery. With InPost’s locker service, you can send and collect a parcel at a time and place convenient for you.

InPost is an alternative click-and-collect service that lets you pick up your parcel from a secure locker at a nearby location, at a time that suits you. InPost Parcel Lockers mean no more waiting in for a delivery nor a lengthy trip to a collection depot and then a long wait to be served. You simply have your parcels delivered to any InPost Parcel Locker around the UK where you can then pick them up any day of the week, at any time, day or night.

InPost has more than 1,000 lockers nationwide at popular locations including Morrisons supermarkets, petrol stations, tube and train stations as well as stores such as Toys R Us. Lockers are positioned in well-lit outside locations with security cameras to ensure customer safety.

You can use InPost to receive and return parcels from a range of retailers including Marks and Spencer, Moss Bros, Virgin Wines, JD Williams and SimplyBe. The lockers are fully automated and can store parcels up to a maximum size of 38cm x 38cm x 64cm and up to 15kg in weight.

How does InPost work?

Shop online with one of inPost’s retail partners and select InPost as your delivery option. Select your preferred locker location and complete your checkout.

When the parcel is ready to be collected, you’ll receive an email or text message with a unique locker opening barcode and PIN. Go to your chosen InPost Parcel Locker, scan the barcode if you’ve printed it or enter the PIN. The locker will open and you can collect your parcel.

What if I need to return a parcel?

Returning unwanted items using an InPost Parcel Locker is easy and, again, you can do this at a time that suits you.

Go to the retailer’s website and click through to their Returns page. Select InPost as your return option and then print the free InPost returns label and attach it to your parcel. Take the parcel to any InPost Parcel Locker. Once there, select 'send a parcel', scan your label and place your parcel inside the locker compartment. If you’ve more than one parcel to return, you’ll need several lockers as each locker holds only one parcel. Lockers are emptied once a day. You can typically then track your parcel’s return journey via the retailer’s website.

Can I use InPost to send a parcel?

You can also use InPost to deliver a parcel. Visit www.inpostdirect.co.uk to book your parcel and print a label for it. You can choose to either drop off your parcel at an InPost locker after which it will be delivered to your recipient’s address, or have your parcel collected by InPost and placed in a locker at a site you select. Your recipient can then collect it at a time that’s convenient for them.
