Though the gap-year-taking under 30s have cemented a reputation as the adventurous travellers of the world, in truth travel statistics point to 60+ travellers when it comes to making big trips to far-off, exotic places.

Throw away your cares and travel from the UK to destinations like Africa, India, Australia and Argentina.

If you’re young at heart, a single over 60s traveller, or part of a group, Saga has many different holidays that can help you discover a whole new side of yourself. And if you're looking for a solo holiday, read our tips for finding the best singles holidays.

Take a really wild safari

Get swept up in the excitement of seeing some of the world’s most dangerous predators and get in touch with nature by embarking on a safari.

There are many locations to experience a safari, the most famous being in Africa. Kenya, South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe all being popular locations to spot the Big Five (lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and African buffalo). India is also a popular safari destination, with Ranthambore National Park in Rajasthan being a particularly good spot to see tigers in their natural habitat.

It’s worth first deciding what kind of wildlife you want to see and whether you want to mix a really wild safari with a beach holiday for some much deserved R&R.

We recommend: An African safari holiday

Take on an epic tour

If you’re the kind of person who likes to experience all the incredible sights of the world one of our epic tours is a wonderful way to tick off the must-see sights on your list, and if you've recently retired you can enjoy the benefits of taking a good, long holiday and really getting to know a country or region.

Whether that's discovering the National Parks of the USA, braving the wilderness of Canada and Alaska or taking a once in a lifetime trip to the opposite side of the world on a tour of Australia and New Zealand, you're bound to create some incredible memories.

We recommend: An epic tour

Discover exotic birds in their natural habitat

Whether you're watching colourful tropical birds in Costa Rica, or getting to know our more exotic European birds in the Danube Delta, a birdwatching holiday is a wonderful way to see the world in a different way and learn something new at the same time. Birdie beginners and established twitchers alike can get a lot from a birdwatching holiday, and what's more it's a fantastic way to meet new people with similar interests. Let expert hosts (some of which you might recognise from TV nature programmes!) guide you through the vast world of birds.

Explore historic sites

If you spent your childhood pouring over books about archaeology’s heyday when Tutankhamun was unearthed in the 1920s, fancy yourself as an Indiana Jones, or simply love history, then our archaeology holidays will guide you through long-past eras, exciting dynasties and mysterious monuments.

We recommend: History and archaeology holidays

Get into the great outdoors on a walking holiday

If you’re keen to stretch your legs against a jaw-dropping landscape there are plenty of places in the world where you can do just that.

Walking holidays in Switzerland and Slovenia offer mountainous and fairytale-like Alpine backdrops.

For the fit, there are more challenging trails in Machu Picchu and the Rockies in Canada.

If you simply love being out of doors, but don’t necessarily like the vigorous physical demands of a walking holiday, there are less strenuous tours that visit the most naturally beautiful parts of a country.

Check out our National Parks Discovery tour, where you can explore during the day before falling into a luxurious hotel bed in the evenings, or travel the Road to the Rockies for beautiful backdrops and views.

We recommend: A fabulous walking holiday

Enjoy concerts on Europe breaks

For the classical music lover, Europe is the ticket.

From Austria and Hungary to Italy and Prague, you’ll find almost every country has its own prestigious opera houses, ballet theatres and concerts, from grand and traditional to contemporary and modern. Stay in elegant European hotels after an evening of wonderful entertainment, or take to the waterways on a river cruise.
