With the tablet and smartphone boom comes an influx of travel apps. To help you sort through the 36,000 travel apps on the market, here is a round-up of the best we could find.



Packing Pro

This slick app provides great sharing and syncing options, large catalogues, display customisation and built-in expert assistance.

Packing Pro allows you to better plan and pack for your trip, also meaning you can prepare for numerous future holidays in separate categories.

A useful all-in-one travel organiser, Tripit helps plan your itinerary by bringing all your flight and holiday confirmation emails together.

Access your reservations, maps and more from one simple, free app.

 

Cool Places

Created by the founders of Rough Guides and Cool Camping, this easy-to-use app focuses on the best places to eat, drink, sleep and shop in Britain. It features a useful map, plenty of photos and highlights picked out by a tram of regional experts.

 

Weather Pro

Although most phones have a weather feature, this advanced version is uncannily accurate. Weather Pro features weather reports for over two million geographical locations and offers you global forecasts, satellite images and charts.

 

Wikitude

Wikitude allows the user to point a phone's camera at their surroundings and then, through some new-fangled technology, the app recognises your location and annotates the screen with information on local restaurants, accommodation, interesting, events and activities.

 

English Heritage

Search through all of the English Heritage places to visit in the UK with this handy, free app. As well as opening hours, prices, directions and images, it will also find places close to your current location.

 

Touchnote

Save money by not buying postcards and stamps and try something more personal.

Touchnote allows you to turn any photo into a postcard and send it anywhere in the world via your mobile phone.

 

MySaga Holiday App

Whether you want to find out what's included in your Saga holiday, stay one step ahead of the weather or take a look at all of the various excursions on your trip, the MySaga Holiday app has everything you need – all in one place. Available for iOS and Android, the app is also completely free.

Unlike sending expensive text messages from abroad, WhatsApp works via the Internet.
