Springtime in Seville
The city of Seville doesn’t just sizzle in high summer.
It intoxicates visitors and homegrown Sevillanos in spring, too, when its celebration of all things Andalusian, the Feria de Abril (April Fair) signals party time for the whole city.
Expect to witness a blizzard of exotic colour and pageantry in the great sultry southern Spanish city when the Feria hits town.
Savour the sights of locals in their finery, magnificently decorated horses, Manzanilla sherry flowing like, well, sherry, and the city’s divine, feted tapas mercifully plentiful throughout the joyous festival.
The home of Flamenco
Seville is, of course, the home of flamenco, and its April Fair is awash with the stomp, pomp and sounds of that incomparable dance, steeped in history and allegory.
As is the Spanish way, all the fun of the Feria goes on through the day into the evening, and then the night-time until late – that’s Spanish late, proper late - every night.
And Seville’s Feria celebrations always go out with a bang on the final Sunday, with a mighty fireworks extravaganza over the Guadalquivir River.
