Frequently asked questions

Reasons to take out equity release

If you’re a UK homeowner aged 55 or over, you may be able to use equity release to turn some of the value of your property into tax-free cash, to help you enjoy a more comfortable retirement.

You may want to make home improvements, help your family with their finances or pass on an early inheritance. You could choose to pay off debts or an existing mortgage which will then free up some of your income.

Think carefully before securing other debts against your home.

To help you understand how you can do this and provide you with the necessary expert advice and information, Saga has teamed up with Just Retirement Solutions Limited to bring you the Saga Equity Release Advice Service.

The service offers:

  • Expert advice from equity release specialists
  • No advice fee to pay, whether you go ahead or not. If you take out an equity release plan, other fees may apply
  • A personal financial review to see if equity release could be right for you and if you are missing out on any state benefits to which you are entitled
  • Access to a range of carefully selected plans and providers to suit your individual circumstances.

There is no obligation to proceed and your adviser will tell you if they feel that equity release is not suitable for your specific needs.

Equity release may involve a lifetime mortgage or a home reversion plan. To understand the features and risks, ask for a personalised illustration.

Equity release may not be right for everyone. It may affect your entitlement to state benefits and will reduce the value of your estate.

If you decide to take out a plan, Just Retirement Solutions Limited will pay Saga an introductory fee.
