Laura Howard gives you the lowdown on some inspired money-saving deals
Make a will for less
Registered charity Will Aid is running a campaign throughout November to encourage the 60% of Britons without a will to get one in place. Between now and the end of the month, you can contact a solicitor participating in the scheme at Willaid.org.uk (or by calling 0300 0300 013) and make a one-off donation to the charity in place of paying a fee. The suggested donation is £75 for a single will, £110 for a pair of matching wills and £40 for a codicil (change) to an existing will.
Keep on top of your mortgage
Interest rates may have stayed put in November at 0.5% but the value of your home has gone up according to both Halifax and Nationwide. Their house price indices recorded average rises of 1.2% and 0.4% respectively during October. This means your loan to value is falling – and could line you up for a better mortgage deal. £25 extra for Morrisons shoppers
Supermarket Morrisons is re-launching its Christmas Collector Card this year, giving shoppers the chance to get £25 towards the cost of their Christmas lunch. To qualify, you will need to spend £40 or more in one transaction each week for five of the six weeks between November 9 and December 20. Store your five receipts in a Collector Card which you can pick up in store, and swap them for a £25 voucher which can be spent between 17 and 31 December – also when spending £40 or more.
Beware of missing mail in strikes
The most recent postal strikes may have been called off but more could be on the horizon. CreditExpert.com has issued a warning to the British public that ID fraudsters can use strikes as a smokescreen to steal or redirect mail and obtain personal details. It says credit card holders should be extra vigilant about checking bills arrive on schedule. If you believe your account is being used fraudulently, inform your bank or card company immediately. You can also check your credit rating at CreditExpert.com
Discount on stocking fillers
If you are starting on your Christmas shopping this weekend, make your life easier and check out Stockingfillers.co.uk. The website has some great gift ideas all laid out conveniently by price – starting from under £1. Better still through VoucherCodes.co.uk you can get free delivery on orders over £40 until November 15. Just enter the word 'JINGLE' when you get to the online checkout.
