Confusion surrounding the cost of care homes throughout the UK

Wednesday 17 October 2007

Commenting on today’s report from the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) suggesting there are wide variations and confusion surrounding the cost of care homes throughout the UK, Saga:

"This is a common problem that we see time and time again – all too often a person's assessment for the eligibility of care home funding is, at best, sporadic; at worst, plain wrong and often missing completely. Even local authorities themselves have admitted that they find the rules confusing but mistakes here can cost residents and their families tens of thousands of pounds. There are some very basic financial mistakes which we see residents and their families making time after time. We can set those who come to us on the right track but for every person that seeks advice there are dozens more who don’t know where to turn."
