Dame Judi Dench and Sir David Attenborough are over 50s top travelling companion

Friday 27 July 2007

Oscar-winner Dame Judi Dench and TV presenter Sir David Attenborough are the two celebrities most over 50s would like to travel around the world with, according to research by Saga Holidays.

The pair have topped an extensive poll of personalities the over-50s would be happy to visit all four corners of the globe with, with Dame Judi pipping Sir David to the top of the list.

The third most popular choice was Terry Wogan followed by Michael Palin – who starred in the hit BBC series Michael Palin's Around the World in 80 Days.

The top ten list is completed by Dame Helen Mirren, Dawn French, George Clooney, Carol Vorderman, Michael Parksinson and Bill Oddie.

Also mentioned in the top 20 were Sean Connery, Bill Connolly and survival expert Ray Mears.

Andrew Goodsell, Chief Executive Saga Group said: "Everyone has their own idea of what makes the perfect travelling companion. For the over 50s it seems the most desired attributes are major success on the big screen, extensive travel experience and plenty of money to snap up some holiday souvenirs."

Saga Holidays commissioned the research by Populus, who surveyed nearly 13,000 over-50s nationwide.
