Saga showcases a new side of an old favourite this year with the introduction of a 13-night* cultural and a scenic tour of Bali. With prices working out at little more than 100 a day, for award winning flights, dinner, and bed and breakfast accommodation the experience represents real value for money while demonstrating that there is much more to Bali than good beaches and lots of sunshine.
Whilst there is plenty of emphasis on relaxation, Saga's itinerary makes the most of the Balinese culture and traditions. Starting in the artists' retreat of Ubud, the tour continues up the rugged east coast to Candi Dasa, traverses the volcanic north of the island and takes in the jungles of the Bali Barat National Park, before following the Indian Ocean coastline to finish in the idyllic beach resort of Sanur.
Along the way, Saga clients can take in traditional family homes, temples and palaces, visit a monkey sanctuary and take a dolphin-watching boat-trip, shop for batik-printed textiles, woodcarvings, pottery and scores of other handicrafts plus luxuriate in the tranquillity of the spas at Taman Wana and Sanur.
Featured in Saga's Travellers World brochure, the escorted 'The Best of Bali'tour starts at 1,399 per person, or less than 110 per day. Even in the August peak holiday peak season, the holiday still works out at less than 121 a day costing 1,569 per person.
Flights are from Heathrow with multi-award-winning Singapore Airlines, allowing clients to take an optional three-night break in Singapore (from 169). Alternatively, Saga is offering extensions of five extra half-board nights at the luxury Sanur Beach Hotel for the same price. Or 3 nights before or after the tour in Hong Kong.
Departure dates for 2007 are April 12, May 10, June 7, August 16, September 13, October 11 and November 8.
