Discover the best of England from Saga's four new country retreats
- 5 and 6 night breaks from as little as 75 per day
The over-50s travel specialist Saga Holidays is offering the opportunity for customers to enjoy some of the very best of Southern England's historic towns, cities and countryside this year, perfect for the environmentally conscious wishing to keep their carbon footprint to a minimum.
Accommodation is of a very high standard in a selection of historic buildings converted into conference centres. Located within tranquil, rural settings, these offer great value bases from which to explore the local surroundings.
Week long breaks can be as adventurous or relaxing as customers wish, all accommodation offers a variety of fitness equipment and plenty of grounds for outdoor walks. All rooms can be used for single occupancy.
Top of the range of the four new centres introduced by Saga this year is Hampshire's New Place Conference Centre, a converted Grade I listed manor house midway between Southampton and Winchester.
The property's 108 rooms come with television, telephone and tea- and coffee-making facilities. Five nights' half-board accommodation starts at 369 - less than 75 a day, including a full-day trip to Beaulieu, home of the national Motor Museum, and the New Forest, and a half-day guided tour of Winchester and its celebrated cathedral. Art appreciation and Archaeology special interest holidays also available.
The Horsley Conference Centre, eight miles from Guildford, is set in the 70-acre grounds of Horsley Towers, and provides an ideal base for a cruise on the river Wey and a tour of Guildford, and a half-day visit to Polesden Lacey's historic house - both of which are included in the Saga price of 379 for six half-board nights. Special interest holidays on Bridge and Gardens are also available.
Also in Surrey, and priced at the same great-value 379 for six nights' half-board accommodation, Branksome Conference Centre is set in 32 acres of parkland, around two miles from Haslemere. The price includes a full-day excursion to Winchester and a half-day visit to Petworth House.
The Uplands Conference Centre, in the heart of the Chilterns four miles from High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, is priced from just 369 for five nights' half-board accommodation.
That price include two excursions - to Oxford, city of dreaming spires, and to Windsor Castle. The property's 74 rooms again feature television, telephone and tea- and coffee-making facilities, and facilities include a restaurant, bar, Saga lounge, mini-golf and squash and tennis courts. Art appreciation special interest holidays are also available.
Optional excursions are also available including trips to a selection of southern England's finest historic gardens, cities and museums.
