Few destinations offer as much unspoiled, raw beauty as Iceland, a destination where you can truly see Mother Nature in action, including waterfalls carving their way through the rocks and new born lava fields, demonstrating how the earth was formed. Saga's two-centre itinerary featuring Reykjavik and Akureyri allows clients to take in all the highlights of this wonderful destination.
Based around the capital Reykjavik, the world's most northerly capital and Akureyri, just 40 kilometres below the Arctic circle, over seven nights the tour takes in the famous Blue Lagoon with its healing thermal waters, Iceland's spectacular double-decker waterfalls and even the chance to spot a whale.
First to Reykjavik for three days, where the introduction to Iceland starts with an optional tour of the 'Golden Circle,' which features some of Iceland's key sites starting with the Thingvellir National Park and Iceland's largest lake the Thingvallavatn, then the Gullfoss Falls. The day is completed by the chance to relax in the Geyser's hot springs and warming, healing mud. Day two combines two optional excursions, first the opportunity to relax in the Blue Lagoon and sooth away any aches and pains, then there is time to explore Reykjavik's cultural side, by visiting the city's museums, galleries and churches.
After a day soaking up the city the tour moves to the serenity and expansive spaces of Akureyri; situated on Iceland's longest fjord and backed by dramatic mountains rising up to 1,500 metres above sea level. After time to explore this north-eastern town with its botanical gardens and the world's most northerly golf course there is the option to whale watch spotting humpback, giant fin and the magnificent killer whale. Prior to returning to the UK the last optional trip is to the magnificent Lake Myvatn, the most geologically active part of the country, with its bubbling mud flats, moonlike landscape, and lava fields.
Prices for this itinerary start at 999 per person departing October 8th. The price includes all breakfasts, two lunches and two dinners.
