Saga, the UK's leading cruise operator for the over 50s, is offering people from Newcastle the opportunity to embark on adventurous and exotic itineraries onboard Saga Ruby, with the introduction of a further four scheduled departures from the city's port following its inaugural departure in 2007.
Saga has put together a wide selection of new and unique itineraries for its 2008 Classic Cruising brochure, in what will be a sailing season full of intrigue, excitement and discovery.
Saga Ruby will be sailing to the Mediterranean from Newcastle-upon-Tyne for the first time on 12 June 2008. Celebrated Cities of the Mediterranean visits some of the region's most renowned cities, including Lisbon, Rome, Barcelona and Florence. Highlights of the 17-night cruise include the Vatican City in Rome, the Uffizi Gallery in Florence and the town of Oporto in Portugal, renowned for its port wine estates. Prices start from 2066.
For the perfect relaxing getaway, Saga is offering a five-night Flavours of France and Belgium mini-cruise, departing Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Themed for newcomers, Saga Ruby will sail to Amsterdam, Le Havre from where guests can visit Paris, followed on by a tour of Bruges. Departing 29 June 2008, prices start from 685 per person.
Travellers will have the opportunity to experience the sophisticated and elegant Baltic capitals on Splendours of the Baltic, a 13-night cruise departing on 23 May 2008. Visiting classic destinations such as Stockholm, Helsinki and St Petersburg, the itinerary will expose guests to magnificent architecture and endless scenery of this breathtaking destination. Prices start from 1714 per person.
Magic of the Norwegian Fjords will see Saga Ruby cruising to the Orkney Islands to witness the wealth of archaeological sites before setting her sights on the spellbinding beauty and tranquillity of Norway's Fjords. Highlights of the itinerary include the spectacular scenery surrounding Geiranger, the amazing glaciers of Jostedal National Park and Bergen's colourful Bryggen waterfront, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Departing 5 June 2008, prices start from 951 per person for seven-nights.
