St Lucia the venue for the first 100% Saga owned hotel abroad
Hotel to be refurbished and upgraded for Feb 08 opening
Saga, the leading tour operator for the over 50s, has announced it has bought its first overseas hotel - the Cara Suites in St Lucia - a charming small hotel with stunning views across the Caribbean. The hotel is to be renamed 'Bel Jou', Creole for 'Beautiful Day.'
Nestled on the hillside above the town of Castries, the 52-bedroom colonial-style hotel will now undergo a major refurbishment, which will transform the hotel from a three to a four star property, before opening exclusively for Saga guests in February 2008.
Whilst the Hotel Cavalieri in Malta is used exclusively for Saga guests, this is the first time the company has bought and run an overseas hotel outright.
Andrew Goodsell, Chief Executive, Saga Group commented: "The Caribbean is a firm favourite amongst British holidaymakers and the Bel Jou will offer some of the finest views in St Lucia. We are bringing the tremendous experience and service levels provided on our cruise ships, including our chefs, to the Caribbean and are looking forward to welcoming guests who will enjoy the complete Saga hotel experience in 2008."
The extensive refurbishment work will include the conversion of the bar and restaurant to offer an open-plan lay-out with indoor and alfresco dining options, enabling diners to enjoy the views. The pool area will be transformed with an expansion of the terrace area and the inclusion of a pool bar. A boardwalk will also be added to the grounds, enabling customers to stroll around the hotel’s tropical gardens and look out to sea.
Eight nights* all inclusive at the Bel Jou starts from 1099 per person, including flights and insurance. Among the excursions included in the price of the holiday are visits to Castries, Pigeon Island and Rodney Bay, along with a catamaran cruise to the Pitons, including a trip to the world’s only drive-in volcano.
