Saga Midsummer Charity Ball raises 100,000

Monday 9 July 2007

Even the British weather decided it would play ball - and provided a sunny interlude in the weekend storms to ensure that the sun shone on revellers attending the Midsummer Charity Ball hosted by Saga.

Some 350 people enjoyed an evening of fine food and great entertainment at Saga's Pavilion in Enbrook Park in Folkestone.

The purpose was to have a great time - but also to raise money for Kent-based charity The Dandelion Trust for Children and The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.

Entertainment was provided by Diana Ross look-a-like Stephanie Benson, and RADA actors performed vignettes from 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'. There was also an auction, which included fabulous holidays, tickets to the theatre and a chauffeur driven Paris shopping trip with fashion guru Lesley Ebbetts.

The evening was compered by RADA-trained Richard Wilson - who is perhaps most famous for his role as the curmudgeonly Victor Meldrew in the TV sit-com One Foot in the Grave. However, the words 'I can't believe it' are perhaps best reserved for the amount of money raised for charity - over 130,000. The money will be equally divided between The Dandelion Trust for Children and RADA.

Andrew Goodsell, Chief Executive, Saga Group said:

"I was delighted that we were able to host such a fantastic event and raise so much money for two such worthwhile charities."

Graham Carpenter, Project Director from The Dandelion Trust for Children said:

"We are very grateful for the generosity of our hosts Saga and all the guests who, through their fundraising, have provided us with vital funding to allow us to move to our new site from which we can help more children AND make the lives of some of the most disadvantaged children so much better."
