Awards voted for by Saga customers
The champagne was in full flow on Monday night as winners of the Saga Holidays Supplier Awards celebrated at an evening ceremony hosted at the Riverside Rooms, County Hall, London.
Attended by hoteliers, local agents and ground handlers who cater for Saga customers around the world, the Saga Holidays Supplier Awards recognise and reward the excellent services provided by these suppliers, as voted for by Saga customers. In order to receive a 'Top Stay' award guests will have to have consistently marked the hotel and all aspects of its service at an exceptional level. 'Top Tour' awards are based on scores given for the various different components making up a tour such as accommodation, excursions, food and location.
The Awards also honour those establishments throughout the world, which Saga customers have commended for the quality and variety of food available. Hotels receive one and two Rosette awards, depending on how guests have scored them.
Taking top honours, the Nexus Resort in Malaysia was voted by Saga travellers as the 'Travellers World Top Stay'. Situated on the Karambunai Penninsula between a 6km long stretch of sandy beach and natural rainforest, the Nexus Resort, Kota Kinabalu was recognised for its wonderful staff and superb location. The Biarritz Apartments in California and the Paradise Beach Resort, Koh Samui came a close second and third.
Ranked as the 'Europe & Mediterranean Top Stay', the Iberostar Costa Calero in Lanzarote was awarded the title, with holidaymakers commenting on its happy atmosphere and beautiful views. The Hotel Montenegro in Montenegro, and Savoy Beach Hotel on the Venetian Riviera were the category runners up.
Saga's most popular touring holidays were also voted for by customers, with the 'Travellers World Top Tour' Award being handed to the magical 10-day 'Kenyan Safari'. Including time spent at the Sweetwaters Game Reserve, Lake Nakuru and the Masai Mara National, the 'Kenyan Safari' tour is a fantastic mix of African wildlife and scenery, which passengers describe as an amazing experience with unique accommodation. Nepal was the destination for both the second and third tour choices with the 'Trekking in Nepal' and 'In Search of the Royal Bengal Tiger' tours receiving extensive accolades from Saga travellers.
The 7-day 'Magic of the Nile' tour was voted the 'Europe & Mediterranean Top Tour' title, which has regularly exceeded customers expectations, they specifically commented on the first class accommodation and named the trip to Abu Simbel as the highlight of the tour. The Alpine Rail Adventure tour through Switzerland came in second, whilst Egypt was again recognised as a superb destination with the 'Voyage through Ancient Egypt' tour coming in third.
The Award for 'Outstanding Contribution to Saga Charitable Trust' was given to Mr Ranjitkar of the Malla Hotel, Kathmandu for his work in assisting the Trust to build a school for underprivileged children and he also helped set up a self sufficiency programme for the school.
The 'Outstanding Achievement' Award was given to CYTS tours of China for their consistent support to Saga over the past ten years, their attention to detail and impeccable customer service.
Good food was also commended, with over 130 one & two Rosette Good Food Awards handed out to hotels worldwide, recognising the quality and variety of food provided to saga customers. Hotels across Asia fared particularly well, with the superior 2 Rosette Good Food Award going to the Renaissance Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, the Tiger Tops Tented Camp and the Tharu Lodge both in Nepal, and the Grand Hotel, Cinnamon Grand Hotel and Mahaweli Reach Hotel all in Sri Lanka. European hotels receiving the coveted 2 Rosette Good Food Award included Hotel Accademia in Verona-Italy, Hotel Pical in Croatia, Jardin Tropical Hotel in Tenerife and the Hotel Riu Playa in Majorca.
