Spirit of Adventure launches new cruises of discovery for 2008/9
A voyage around the spectacular Galapagos Islands, a journey into the depths of Antarctica, and a expedition into the rich Amazon Delta are among the 12 new cruises featured in Spirit of Adventure's 2008/9 brochure.
Full of fascinating journeys to inspire even the most intrepid travellers, the latest programme also includes a trip around the South Caribbean and a cruise down the coast of Brazil.
A highlight of the new cruising programme is the High Andes and Galapagos Adventure, which departs on 21 February 2009. This compelling 16-night trip (including two nights on aircraft) will reveal the natural wonders of Chile, Peru and Ecuador, before a thrilling three-night cruise aboard MV Galapagos Explorer II. Excursions on the journey include a visit to Chan Chan, Peru (the largest mud city in the Americas), and a coastal walk amid the sandy mountains of Atacama in Chile. After embarking MV Galapagos Explorer II, passengers will be able to watch breathtaking wildlife ranging from giant tortoises to marine iguanas and sea lions. Prices start from £4191 per person.
For passengers with a real thirst for discovery and adventure, Spirit of Adventure's Journey into Antarctica promises to be a truly awe-inspiring experience to discover this most unusual destination on an 18-night journey (including two nights aboard aircraft and two nights in a hotel). As well as the fantastic scenery and wildlife watching opportunities on offer, passengers will be able to bathe in the thermal heated waters of Pendulum Cove and visit Punta Arenas in Chile – the world's southernmost city. Prices for the cruise, which departs on 5 February 2009, start from £3,639 per person.
Spirit of Adventure's In The Wake of Great Explorers cruise will take passengers to some of the most fascinating islands of the Caribbean. Beginning in Barbados, the itinerary will feature the islands of Dominica, St Barthelemy and Virgin Gorda – all discovered by Christopher Columbus – before heading to Nevis and Antigua. Prices start from 1979 per person for the 14-night journey, with no single supplement on single cabins. The cruise departs on 21 April, 2009.
In response to customer demand the Spirit of Adventure has amended it's package to include house wine with lunch and dinner on 12 new cruises sailing between November 2008 and May 2009.
All Spirit of Adventure cruises include a series of meticulously planned shore excursions, which delve deeper into the historical, cultural and architectural surroundings of each destination visited. In addition, each day of exploration is further enhanced by a comprehensive programme of lectures led by expert guest speakers on board. The topics covered include archaeology, history, local traditions and food and wine.
A key feature of Spirit of Adventure's 2008/9 programme is the opportunity to experience adventurous new activities or indulge in a favourite pastime. Designed to complement the overall cruising experience, activities available include wine tasting, scuba diving, watercolour lessons, language classes and archaeological trails.
