Emma Soames, Editor at Large for Saga Magazine and Trustee of the Saga Respite for Carers Trust comments after David Cameron indicated that the Tories could accelerate plans to increase the age of retirement, millions of people could end up having to work for longer.
"Tory Proposals to accelerate plans to increase the age of retirement at first appear unpalatable. However, many people are already having to consider putting off retirement either because they cannot afford to live on a pension, or because they are fit and healthy and still enjoy working. In fact many people are already deferring their pensions, so these proposals appear to merely formalise what is already a reality for increasing numbers of voters facing retirement in the years to come.
We'd like to hear much more from the Tories who have to date been silent about their policies for older people and how they are going to support our ageing population".
