Saga carers battling through the winter weather to reach clients

- Dedicated carers walk miles to deliver care to the most vulnerable
- Saga carers will make over 500 visits across the South East on Christmas Day
Throughout some of the worst December snowfall on record, Saga Independent Living carers have been going the extra mile to ensure they provide care to those who need it the most.
Despite the bad weather, Saga managed to complete over 700 visits per day across the South East ensuring continuity of care for its clients. In a well planned operation, Saga hired in 4x4s to ferry carers around the region to help ensure care got through to the most vulnerable people in some of the most remote spots.
Some valiant carers living in areas where it was simply too dangerous to get out in the car, set out on foot to reach appreciative customers. In the Hove area SIL carers were seen out walking for up to an hour to get between customers and on the Romney Marsh, one extraordinary carer walked her entire round, which sometimes meant walking three miles between clients.
Roger Ramsden, chief executive, Saga Services said:
“We aim to continue to provide this essential service come what may, giving people the care they need to be comfortable in their own homes. We currently have over 500 visits planned for Christmas day, helping people with everything from personal care and companionship to providing Christmas dinner.”
