Saga generation overwhelmingly support a special levy on banks
The Saga generation would support a special banking levy to help the taxpayer recoup some of the money spend on supporting the banks. An overwhelming 85% of the 15,688 respondents to a recent Saga Populus Panel survey said they would support a levy on banks similar to that recently announced by U.S. President Obama.
Paul Green, head of communication, Saga Group, commented: "Tax increases are normally never popular, but any Political Party would have strong support if they proposed such a measure. The recent Saga Generation Manifesto demonstrated the importance of listening to this influential demographic which is likely to comprise the majority of those voting at the next General Election."
Notes to Editors
Saga Populus Panel received 15,688 responses from people aged 50 and over between 15th and 22nd January 2010
