Bus pass eligibilty comment
The introduction of means testing to eligibility for a free bus pass would be a highly retrograde and massively unpopular measure. The bus pass keeps older people active and gets them out and about at a time in their lives when it is vital that they stay active and involved in their local communities. It is reasonable to expect people who are still working fulltime to pay for their own travel. The bus pass should be free to everyone of state pension age who have retired and to pensioners who are working part time. The only test should be a 'work test’, which should possibly exclude people of pensionable age who are working fulltime.
