“Hospital parking charges are a tax on the sick and a tax that falls mainly on the elderly who are heavy users of NHS hospitals. England should follow the example of Scotland and Wales and abolish hospital parking charges. When the sick and their relatives arrive at hospital the last thing they ought to be worried about is whether they have fed the meter sufficiently to avoid a ticket. Bringing England into line with Scotland and Wales is not only the right thing to do, it would also be very popular – a recent poll of 14,178 over 50s showed 85% support for abolition."
