SAGA GIVES MUCH NEEDED BOOST TO LOCAL ECONOMY

Saga is set to provide a much needed boost to the local economy this Christmas. Pubs, clubs and restaurants in Thanet, Folkestone, Hythe and Hastings could benefit from a £160,000 boost as Saga confirms support for their staff to have after-work Christmas team celebrations.

As well as helping to fund after-work Christmas parties for Saga staff, the company is also providing a free Christmas traditional turkey lunch with all the trimmings for its staff across sites in Thanet, Folkestone, Hythe and Hastings. For vegetarians a Mushroom Wellington will be available.

There will be several sittings to ensure that all those that want to have a free staff Christmas lunch are able and crackers, party poppers and streamers will add to the festive atmosphere.

Saga's ability to come together and celebrate over a festive feast is only made possible because of the dedication of Jane Collins and her catering team of 35 - four of whom will be in on Sunday 18 December to prepare the veggies.

With all our new staff to welcome this year we needed to order a few more turkeys - so 72 free-range birds will be hand-carved and served along with the chef’s homemade stuffing and some 200kg of potatoes and 300kg of carrots, swedes and leeks - not to mention 15,000 sprouts. This will be followed by 1,300 Christmas puddings accompanied by 100 litres of brandy butter, and for those able to manage another mouthful, mince pies as well.

Paul Green, Saga's head of communications commented:

"People at Saga work hard and are devoted to delivering for our customers, they deserve to have a good break this Christmas.

At a time when other firms may be cancelling Christmas, I am delighted that Saga can help our people let their hair down and celebrate this yuletide with their workmates.

This also helps Saga keep our reputation as being the place to work and the people to work with."

If anyone is interested in making a fresh start in the New Year then we will be recruiting several hundred positions within Customer Services, Claims & Sales in 2012. The Saga jobs hotline is 01303 774 707 or visit our careers website is saga.co.uk/careers
