MAKE THE MOST OF INSULATION OFFERS FROM ENERGY SUPPLIERSThursday 9 February 2012
Commenting on Fuel Poverty Awareness Day, Dr Ros Altmann, Director General of over-50s organisation Saga said "Saga urges everyone to contact their energy supplier to take advantage of free insulation offers that may be available to them. Millions of people could be suffering in freezing homes, when a call to their energy company could give them cavity wall and loft insulation for free.
MAKE THE MOST OF INSULATION OFFERS FROM ENERGY SUPPLIERS
“Just as we all tend to put on extra layers during this bitingly cold weather, our homes also need adequate protection from the elements and to keep the warmth in. Help could be at hand from the energy suppliers who have obligations under Government agreements to provide support and advice to their customers, and free loft and cavity wall insulation in many cases too. Our energy company contacts are telling us they have not heard from enough people so far and are sitting on piles of insulation waiting to be installed.
“Saga’s advice is for everyone who might need help, to get in touch with their supplier and ask about free insulation and advice on keeping their homes warm. Many people may think they already have insulation in their lofts, but that’s not always going to be the right amount or thickness.
“We’re asking family and friends to help any vulnerable older people they know to make sure they get any help they are entitled to. Too many older people’s lives are being lost to cold weather and Saga is committed to making sure people are protected.”
