OVER 50s LOVE A BIT OF 'APRIL FOOLS' FUNTuesday 27 March 2012
As April Fools Day approaches you may be surprised to learn that the over 50s will eagerly be scouring the news trying to spot the April Fools day stories or even planning their own pranks.
OVER 50s LOVE A BIT OF 'APRIL FOOLS' FUN
Saga Insurance polled more than 10,000 people over the age of 50 and the findings confirm that the tradition of April Fools clearly strikes a chord with their sense of fun. Over two thirds (69%) of over 50s said they relish the challenge of trying to spot the April Fools stories in the news and readily admit to enjoying a bit of harmless fun themselves on the day.
So, make no mistake, it's not just teenagers enjoying the jokes. H alf (50%) of older people say they enjoy playing pranks on others on April Fool’s Day and 57% report having had jokes played on them.
Commenting on the research Dr Ros Altmann, Director General, Saga said: “We were delighted to see that the over 50s embrace the great tradition of April Fool’s Day. These are generations who have always enjoyed a bit of harmless fun and definitely don’t intend to stop as they get older. Anyone who thinks older people are not up for enjoying life to the full is mistaken. The traditional stereotypes and Victor Meldrew examples are well off the mark."
