Saga's £100,000 Christmas boost to the local economy

Tuesday 17 December 2013

Saga is providing a much needed boost to the local economy this Christmas. Pubs, clubs and restaurants in Thanet, Folkestone, Hythe and Hastings will benefit from an estimated £100,000 boost as Saga is supporting staff after-work Christmas celebrations.

In addition to the out-of-office fun, Saga directors will be practicing balancing plates as they help serve a free Christmas lunch to staff - a traditional turkey feast with all the trimmings.

Over 3,000 people have been offered a free Christmas lunch in Thanet, Folkestone, Hythe and Hastings.  Along with the hand-sliced turkey and stuffing, staff will consume some 40 kg of cranberry sauce, 690kg of potatoes, 300kg of carrots, swedes and leeks - not to mention around 15,000 sprouts, and in response to special requests 7,000 ‘pigs in blankets’ will be making an appearance.  Of course, for those who eschew this meat feast there are veggie options.  This is followed by pudding and for those who could manage them mince pies.  Thousands of crackers and party poppers and balloons will add to the festive atmosphere.

Paul Green, Saga's director of communications commented:

“Business is a social as well as a professional endeavour.  Spending some down-time with workmates is an integral part of building great teams. We value all our people and they deserve a good break this Christmas.  We hope that their lunch and after-work team celebrations provide a good start to this yuletide.”
