Saga Holidays offers scenic walking trails in Europe as the healthy answer to working off those Christmas and New Year indulgences

New holidays have been added to Saga’s European walking tours so there is a suitable pace for everyone from easy to moderate or Active Explorer for more serious walkers.

Walking in Montenegro
Enjoy five guided walks on the Budva Riviera, with its string of golden beaches, coves and capes set against the evergreen slopes of Mount Lovcen. The walks, between 6km and 10km, include a visit to the Rustovo Monastery and the coastal resort of Becici.
Stay at the locally-rated 4-star Hotel Tara, which has an outdoor pool and private beach. Meals are served buffet-style and there is a 12-hour free bar serving local alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
The itinerary includes a 7km walk in the Lovcenas National Park, a trail from the village of Vrmac to Gornja-Lastva through olive groves and pomegranate orchards, a 10km tour from the 19th century Kosmac Fortress and a 6km walk from the islet of Jaz to Trsteno.

Walking in the Pyrenees
Walk three or four hours a day on this new Active Explorer nine-day holiday in France and Spain.
Fly to Toulouse and stay at the locally rated 3-star Hotel Els Avets where the itinerary begins with a 6km walk in Parc Natural de l'Alt Pirineu.
Travel to the Parc Nacional d'Aigüestortes for a 8km scenic trail or an optional 13km excursion retraces the Path of Liberty (Camino de la Libertad), an escape route between France and Spain during the Second World War. On day five travel through the Bonaigua Valley to the locally rated 3-star Hotel Camprodon. Walk the Roman road of Via Annia before an optional full-day excursion to the Salvador Dalí Museum in Figueras and the beach resort of Rosas.

Walking in Makarska
Discover Croatia’s dramatic scenery of the Biokovo mountains during five easy to moderate walks on the Makarska Riveria, while staying at the locally rated 4-star Hotel Meteor with a free 12-hour bar.
The guided tours, between 8km and 14km, include a visit to the Biokovo Botanical Garden which forms part of the Biokovo Nature Park. Walk in the Imotski Valley, passing the Red Lake (reputedly the deepest in Europe) and the Blue lake.

Walking the Way of St James
For more than 1,000 years, pilgrims have travelled the Camino de Santiago route or The Way of St James from the French Pyrenees to the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.
Fly to Bordeaux on this new Saga tour and travel across the border to Pamplona for a three-night stay at the locally rated 3-star Hotel Maissonave. All breakfasts and 10 dinners are included.
The itinerary covers scenic stretches of The Way of St James with two 6km walks and two 10km walks plus further shorter walks on most days. Visit ancient towns and villages including St Jean Pied de Port and Roncesvalles monastery. Montfort de Lemos awaits for a tour of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Las Medulas. At Santiago de Compostela, enjoy a guided walk from Santa Maria de Loimil to the city of Santiago.
