Australia is the dream destination for Saga passengers with more than 35% saying they would love to spend time Down Under.
This vast country, the sixth largest in the world, is far and way the most popular travel choice, although Africa also attracts a huge 23% wanting to visit this diverse country.
There is little between the next three destinations with India attracting 10% of the vote, South America 9% and South-East Asia 8%.
Only 3% say they can not decide which destination to put first and just over 10% say they have other destinations on their mind!
Carl Catterall, of Saga, said: “This survey shows that distance is no object when it comes to holidays for the over 50s. Our passengers want fun and adventure first and foremost – the length of journey is rarely a barrier if the itinerary is inspirational.
“We are also finding the days of ‘fly and flop’ are fading. The thirst for discovering new places, either in the wilderness or dramatic man-made wonders, is continually increasing. It is not surprising that Australia, with its fascinating ancient and modern history, deserts and mountains, beaches and vibrant cities tops our survey by far.”
Saga Holidays won 9 golds at the 2013 British Travel Awards, including Best Safari, Wildlife and Nature Holiday Company; Best Special Interest; Best Escorted Adventure; Best to Sub Saharan Africa; Best to Central & South America and Best Singles Holiday Company.
