Saga passes on tips about fireworks to dog owners
"While bonfire night is great fun for people, pooches can find it very unsettling. The over 50s employ a range of tactics to keep their hound happy during the fireworks. Many train their dogs as puppies to become accustomed to loud noises, whereas others swear by turning the TV up to disguise the noise. Most seem to agree that the best way to prevent your pet cowering behind the sofa is to stay in and keep them company.
"Make sure firework celebrations go with a bang, rather than a whimper by keeping your hound at home. If you remain calm and don't react and fuss, but provide an occasional tasty treat, even the most nervous Newfoundland will find firework night a less stressful experience."
